Paperboy 64

A job you don't want... ever...

I'm getting worried...                                              This isn't looking good...                              GAAAAA! It's worse then I thought! Jagged

                                                                                                                                                                         Edges! This isn't PS One...

Ironhawk's Review

Graphics: 7      I see what they were trying to accomplish, but the N64's textures and effects aren't up to the task.  Oh well, it looked good in its day.

Sound: 4          Yeah, they should have used a larger cartridge size.  These sound effects are compressed to an awful quality.

Playability: 8     The bike is fun to control.  The mission objectives are secondary.

Concept: 3       Let's cash in on a recognized name.  In 3D!

Retro Value: 8  It's better than the original.  A must buy.

Overall: 8         It gets a low score in concept because bringing back an old game is nothing new.  But it homages the original (annoying limo) and improves upon its basic formula, so it gets a good overall rating.

Nightowl's Review

Graphics: 4    Midway wanted to develop for the Playstation so much, they must have gotten the developing kit for Paperboy mixed up with the one from Bubsy 3D. No textures (except for grass) and no faces except for your own... and Dr. Tesla. And it has the worst pop-in I've seen since Crusin USA.

Sound: 2    A good number of music tracks... but sound clips were recorded through a rusty ol' bucket.

Playability: 7    Throw papers left and right. Ride forward. Dave Mira style stunts. Very good. But you'll be crashing into stuff more then throwing papers.

Concept: 9    Let's bring back Paperboy and make it freakishly easy...

Retro Value: 9    It's a rare find. But it's guaranteed to give you about 5 hours of fun...

Overall: 2    But when those 5 hours are all said and done, you're left in the middle of an old Pontiac... it won't go anywhere, and will end up as someone's coaster.
