Corvette ZR-1 Challenge

towards a mountain and it never gets bigger.        your car... you might want to give it decent        Where's the black guy? Affirmative action people!

Just how big are those things? Dang...                 in-game gas mileage.

Ironhawk's Review

Graphics: 8        Looks like just about any other 8 or 16 bit racer.  The cars don't flicker when there are too many on screen, which is good, but I wish they had more frames of animation.  The cars don't turn when you round corners.

Sound: 8            There aren't many different sounds or background musics, but what's there is good.

Playability: 5      Trying to control this game is pretty frustrating.  You're coasting along fine at 192 MPH when you crash into one of the stupid "AI" cars (which are really just straight-moving vehicles that rush toward the front of the screen) and are sent back into first gear.

Concept: 7         It's got some pretty original parts in it, but at its core it's just another racer.

Retro Value: 4   There are too many better racing games out there for you to pick this one up.

Overall: 5           It's a mediocre game, but it's better than most car commercials.

Graphics: 9    The best graphics I've seen in a racer like this since "Enduro" And the Day/Night transfers are pretty nice.

Sound: 6    Nothing annoying... nothing special. Engine sounds, generic background music. The works.   

Playability: 9    As I said. It controls just like "Enduro." I loses a point because sometimes shifting gears is a hassle. You sometimes end up losing more speed instead of gaining it.

Concept: 0    This is one of those Chevy brochures you pick up at the dealership in video game form.    

Retro Value: 1    I dunno... I'll play Rad Racer II.

Overall: 1    Corvettes are cool... Just don't make anymore games with them as the only playable car.
