Rad Racer

Rad beyond all radness...

"Knight Rider"                            Now available at your local Toyota dealer...        Beachside drive... but where's the ocean?

Ironhawk's Review

Graphics: 7      Graphics with all the power of the 8-bit racing game engine.  You get a "3D" road, a double parallax background, and flickering cars.

Sound: 8          All of the different sound modes and cool car sounds are complemented by a super lame victory jingle.  It's one sound channel.  It's like saving the world in an RPG and getting "doop de dooo!  Thanks for playing."

Playability: 8    Granted, I've never driven an 80's car at 150 MPH, but I'd think they'd have a little more traction than this.  Oh well, it's needed to give the game it's challenge, so it works.

Concept: 2       It's a racing game.  Party.

Retro Value: 9  One of the BGMs makes this game worth it's weight in plastic.

Overall: 8          A solid racer.  Oh, and it's "rad".

Nightowl's Review

Graphics: 8    "3D mode", hill effects... but kinda sparse.

Sound: 9    Three different music tracks. But what's with the Stinkoman music? I smell a rip off... on the Brothers Chaps part...

Playability: 4    If feels like you're driving on ice... all the time. And when other car bump you, you go flying off the road. That's not cool...

Concept: 1    Mindlessly drive from one point to the other within the time limit... how novel...

Retro Value: 1    I'll stick with the much better sequel.

Overall: 5    Considering I could be playing Rad Racer 2 with better  music, control, and graphics, and gameplay features... well, what would you choose
