California Games
Yo dude... we were catching some totally tubular waves... in Chicago. In this game, you can do all kinds of extreme sports. Most of which aren't found in many places. Pick a sponsor, and hit the pavement, water, grass, or hackisack.
Bad luck for "Sk8er Boy" As the ancient Hawaiians said... YEAH!!! "Ultimate Frisbee"!!
Ironhawk's Review
Graphics: 6 It's NES, so they actually aren't bad.
Sound: 4 Annoying music and sparse sound effects.
Playability: 6 The gameplay is unforgiving and unpredictable. In the BMX event, if you go near a rock you'll crash into it about half the time. Such is the nature of a 3D event in a 2D game, I guess.
Concept: 10 One of the first games to be made entirely of minigames.
Retro Value: 7 May as well keep this game around. It's pretty unique.
Overall: 7 Each of the minigames is pretty good, except for vert skateboarding which brings the average down.
Nightowl's Review
Graphics: 8 Some of the best I've seen on NES. The waves look kinda realistic. And the frame rate never slows... it's the Tony Hawk precursor so to speak.
Sound: 7 Soft Techno/Beach music really fit the mood.
Playability: 8 Solid, tight, intuitive control. But the control during the skateboarding parts is very questionable.
Concept: 10 The original party game. Outsurfing your friends NEVER gets old.
Retro Value: 9 A game with a bunch of games in it! Sign me up!
Overall: 8 Find a copy... now.
