Kirby Super Star (1995-1996)

It's 8 games in 1!  Kirby Super Star is one of those scatter shot games that tries to have something for everyone.  None of the games could stand alone, but there're eight of them, so it's all good.

 

Spring Breeze - "HELP! All the food from Dream Land has been stolen!  Hurry, Kirby, or everyone will starve!" - The easiest game.  Four levels including a boss stage.  A quick play and a good introduction to the game.

Dyna Blade - "Dyna Blade is destroying all the crops.  She must be stopped.  Master the different abilities and defeat her." - There are a few more Kirbys to transform into in this stage, and it's a little less easy than the first game.

The Great Cave Offensive - "Get through the deadly cave while collecting hidden treasures." - There are dozens of small sprites laying around this world and you must collect them all.  Why?  Just because.  The game world is split into several smaller environments, sets of enemies, and bosses.  The quest is long and nonlinear.  Imagine that.  An open-ended sidescroller.

Revenge of Meta-Knight - "Save Dream Land!  Defeat Meta-Knight and his giant warship Halberd!" - This is a stylized action minigame with a story, cutscenes, and a whole lot of transformations for Kirby.

Milky Way Wishes - "HELP!  You must stop the Sun and Moon from fighting!" - Instead of swallowing enemies to gain Kirbys, you must collect the transformations.  You then have the ability to select them at will.  The final adventure minigame.

Megaton Punch - "Pay attention to the power gauge and watch the pendulum!" - Smash the concrete slabs: three meters come up in a row and you have to hit a button at the right time.  The closer you get to perfect timing, the more megatons of force your punch carries.  A true minigame (Mario party size).

Samurai Kirby - "Push any button immediately when you see "!"." - Try to have quicker reflexes than your opponet.  Another true minigame.

Gourmet Race - "Race through "Gourmet World" to the finish, gobbling up all the tasty treats you can find." - A side-scrolling race through one or all of three levels.  Against King Dedede, possibly the most corrupt world leader in recent memory.  He spends the starving taxpayers' money on food for himself.

Bonus Game:
The Arena - "THE FINAL CHALLENGE!  In his toughest battle yet, the Pink Wonder faces his strongest enemies." - The standard boss fighting bonus game.  See how long you can last against all the fighters in random order.
